NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY

WHAT IS NEUROMUSCULAR THERAPY?

Neuromuscular Massage Therapy is a whole-body rehabilitative approach to deep-tissue bodywork designed to target the sources of chronic pain or imbalance in the soft tissues and alleviate Nervous System Disorders. Neuromuscular Therapy uses specialized treatment protocols to increase joint range of motion, and improve muscle and nerve function.

Unlike Swedish Deep Tissue, which focuses on relaxing sore muscles after workouts, Neuromuscular Therapy is a form of Medical Massage that releases soft tissues stuck in inefficient compensation patterns. This can be caused by bad posture habits, overuse, trauma, or injury. It is a highly technical rehabilitative treatment meant for injury prevention and recovery, and is meant to assist with releasing tension, stuck fascia around the muscles and connective tissues, ligaments, and trigger points as well as assisting with resetting the nervous system.

HOW OFTEN TO GET A NEUROMUSCULAR MASSAGE?

For clients who have chronic pain issues or who regularly acquire sports injuries, you should schedule as frequently as once every 5-7 days for a 2 month period for a complete structural reset. Once the main issues causing the weakness are unwound and the body is stabilized (ie the client no longer sprains their ankles, or has issues with things like leg cramps, tennis elbow from normal sports activities) then going to a biweekly schedule is recommended until more stabilization is achieved. From there moving to every 3-4 weeks is recommended when the tissues and joints can handle daily activities without intervention.

For clients with no chronic pain issues or no major postural misalignments, general maintenance sessions can be scheduled once a month, bimonthly, or even quarterly depending on your budget.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING NEUROMUSCULAR MASSAGE?

Roxanne will greet you at the door and show you to the treatment area to discuss health concerns or areas of focus for the day. If you are currently under the care of a Physician, you will need to bring a Doctor's Note with you to your appointment clearing you, and a written list on paper of any current medications you are taking. Updates will need to be made when you stop or start any medications.

Once the initial consultation is done, Roxanne will explain the undressing protocol and will step out of the room to wash her hands and give you privacy. You will start your session face-up on the table so Roxanne can do another postural analysis by checking gently moving the feet around to see where there may be stiffness in the legs or hips. From there she will move to the head and neck and do a few minutes of Craniosacral Therapy for an initial calming of the nervous system before moving on the the rest of the body.

After the session, Roxanne will step out again to wash her hands and allow you time to get dressed. She will discuss any customized activities for you to do between appointments to expedite your healing process. It is important to allow yourself time to relax after sessions and it is not advised to immediately run off to another activity to allow your body and mind space and time to integrate the changes just made.

*DISCLAIMER* Secure, professional draping will be used at all times and at no point will genitals be exposed before, during, or after sessions. If you still feel uncomfortable with the idea of undressing and being under the sheets for Religious or moral purposes, you can wear loose fitting athletic clothing and let Roxanne know during the consultation and she can accommodate your needs. You are also always welcome to bring another person or well behaved children with you to the session. I just ask that they not distract us from our time together or they will not be welcome back.
